This site is in beta mode. Click here for notes.
If this is your first time here, welcome! This page is a work in progress, meaning we're happy with the overall look & feel and layout, but it's still very rough. Aesthetically, the giant icons are a design choice, based on a need for clarity & a love for Swiss type, symbol sign typography, & Massimo Vignelli's groundbreaking work for the NYC Subway in the 60's, not a mistake.
In terms of functionality, the first priority is the information portal. Our plans are to have a single page scroll with intuitive shortcuts to each category that functions the same way regardless of device. That's not always possible, the 3 icon columns on desktop would be too crowded on mobile & adding extra columns on full screen would slow down users.
Our plans are to have listings for every homeless & poor people service provider in the metro Atlanta area complete with services offered, hours and location, user ratings, google map that allows users to easily see where they are in relationship to both the selected provider & other providers, turn by turn instructions, and a cart that allows users to save providers and then send a customized task list (receipt) including turn by turn instructions & any special directions via email or text.
The good news is that we have all the data compiled by a vetted volunteer team that took the time to contact every provider to make sure the information is up to date and checks up regularly. The bad news is that it isn't in a format that can be read by CMS, which means we have to enter it all manually. The great news going forward is that once that's done, it will be available for anyone to use and customize for their own website etc with just a couple clicks. We're still a few days away from beginning that.
Before that, we want to get the UI down so users can offer suggestions based on actual usage instead of hypothetical. We also have a couple things we want to get out of the way up front.
Know Your Rights
The Know Your Rights section will be fact-based and vetted by civil rights attorneys familiar with state, city & local law, which in a perfect world wouldn't be at all controversial. However, given the level of discomfort & outright animosity some people in law enforcement & government have toward homeless people, it's bound to cause bad feelings, especially since we plan on compiling a database of abusive treatment & legal misinformation for our badass attorneys to use however they see fit.
We don't want to get any of the awesome people that work for little or nothing on behalf of the homeless or other worthy causes into hot water, so it's important for transparency to have as much of this as possible in place asap. We will have it by April 27th but hopefully by the 24th.
Unsheltered Goodwill Ambassador Task Force
The other thing we want to fast track is something tentatively we hope to use to positively change some of the negative narrative around homelessness & homeless people by having teams of volunteers go out & do good works. Neighborhood block & train station trash clean up's are first on the list. A few of us participated in the various Earth Day walks & plan to participate in others. We already have the red orange version of our logo –baseball caps, long & short-sleeved tees & hoodies– uploaded on several of those custom print shops that we will make available at cost. We can't afford quality control samples being homeless & all so we'll probably just choose the cheapest. The idea by going out in uniform is it let's people know that these good deeds are being performed by people who could be homeless or are friends & allies. This pushes a positive narrative while also preventing members from being positively identified as one or the other ie doxxed as homeless.
Charity Chef
This is a side project based on having actually successfully done this work using this model without the branding over a decade ago.We aren't at all sure how much or even if we want to tie it in with this project. It's very much in line with the goals of the concept but probably after we've satisfactorily established our artistry to influential people who are the likely target audience.
The idea of CharityChef is that it's an auction for a chef to cook a sumptuous multi-course prix fixe meal for up to 12 people in the privacy of their own home with 50% of the bid price going to 501(c) 3 charity of their choice. The website went up in a day & hasn't been updated since but it's enough to give a good overview.
Right now, we have 3 chefs with fine dining experience & a maitre d solidly on board & interest from former clients & coworkers, but we haven't even gotten as far as a face to face meeting of the minds. The menu will take time. The auction might be the trickiest part. I know there are a number of online auctions but not sure of pricing. An alternative scenario would be a series of friends & family meals to work out the courses, skill

Progress
Progress is supposed to move forward, not go backward. If you were here in January, you're probably wondering what happened to the Warming Shelter Bar. The answer is that warm weather made it unnecessary and it was just taking up space for no reason. So it went into hibernation. It will be back next winter, better than ever with a toggle to receive cold weather alerts to your phone.

Linking Update
This update brings new Linking features and workflow improvements. You can now create links that smoothly animate to any section on your page, and define whether or not to open them in new tabs. Additionally, we’ve added helpful little indicators to layers with links, and you can now use the L key to quickly add a link to any selected layer—allowing you to add links solely using your keyboard. This makes linking in Framer faster than ever.
